"DNA Weekly" Interview

I'm very excited!  I was interviewed recently by DNA Weekly about my genealogy research, and the interview has gone through the editing process and is now available online.

I'm sure people who know me will recognize my rambling, but I think it turned out very well.

Last year I was interviewed by the editor of Speak!, the newsletter of the Genealogical Speakers Guild, and my profile was published in the December issue.  I got to talk about how much I love genealogy!  You can read the issue here.  Many thanks to Katherine Willson for interviewing me and to new Speak! editor Lauren Maehrlein for polishing the article.

I Was Interviewed on "A Savory Spotlight!"

Tina Sansone, whom I know from the Council for Advancement of Forensic Genealogy and its Forensic Genealogy Institute, and her colleague Sheri Savory cohost an Internet radio talk show called A Savory Spotlight.  They interview guests from a variety of backgrounds — travel, DNA analysis, entertainment — including genealogy.  Tina invited me last year to be a guest on the show, and we finally synched our schedules for March 24.

It was a lot of fun!  Tina and Sheri are very gracious hosts, and I was able to do something I enjoy a lot — share my enthusiasm for the work I do as a professional genealogist.

Tina has let me know that the interview is now available online in a variety of formats.  So if you missed the original broadcast and want to hear a little about my work and background, you have options:

A Savory Spotlight airs regularly on LA Talk Radio on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time.  Tina and Sheri have guests representing a wide range of interests.  Some recent guests were from the Museum of Danish America, LeafSeeker.com, a high school competitive robotics team from Mississippi, and a running team participating in the Los Angeles Marathon.

British Oral History Project

Niamh Dillon, a British Library staff member, is researching a Ph.D. thesis at Goldsmiths College, University of London, on migration within the British Empire in the 20th century, and particularly on the lives of British people living in India in the period leading up to independence from Britain. She hopes to record interviews with people who experienced life in India before independence, and their subsequent experiences after moving to Britain post-independence.

All recordings will be conducted in accordance with the ethical principles laid down by the Oral History Society. With the interviewee's consent, the recordings will be archived at the British Library, where Dillon has been managing oral history projects since 2003.

Genealogy as a "Cool Job"

A few months ago I responded to a request for people with cool jobs to be interviewed for an education site.  The person doing the interviews agreed that genealogy sounded pretty cool (how could she not?).  And I love talking about genealogy!

I just found out that the interview has been posted.  I hope it gets people interested in working in genealogy!
