Merrill B. Kirk Cann was born April 8, 1896 in Pennsylvania.  He was married to Abbie Walton Sellers, daughter of Elmer Ferguson Sellers and Minnie B. Frey, who is my 5th cousin 2x removed.

Rosland V. Votaw, daughter of Joseph Willet Votaw and Florence E. Barnett, was born April 8, 1911 in Indiana, probably in Wabash County.  She is my 4th cousin 2x removed om my Gauntt line through the Votaws.

Gary Allen Feil, son of Rudolf William Feil and Jessie Naomi Gaunt, was born April 8, 1946 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.  He is my 5th cousin once removed via the Gaunts.

Walter Thompson Young and Gladys Ella Easlick, daughter of Daniel Leon Easlick and Ella Ritchie Mingen, were married on April 8, 1938, probably in New Jersey.  Gladys is my 4th cousin on my Gauntt line through the Easlicks.

Jacob Clemens died April 18, 1876 at the age of about 87 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.  He was married to Susanna Darstein, daughter of Abraham Darstein and Catherine Sellers, who is my 2nd cousin 5x removed.

Edwin Elias Sellers, son of Samuel Sellers and Barbara Ann Wampole, died April 8, 1884 at the age of 44 in Spring Garden, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  He is my 3rd cousin 4x removed.

George Lucas Heath, son of Henry Heath and Eliza Bullock, died April 8, 1931 at the age of 85 in Thurman, Warren County, New York.  He is the great-granduncle of my aunt Mary McStroul.

John Gaunt, son of John Gaunt, Jr. and Mary M. Walter, died April 5, 1957 at the age of 64 in Runnemede, Camden County, New Jersey.  He is my 4th cousin 2x removed.

Loren Floyd Sellers, son of James Byron Sellers and Mary Catherine Bear, died April 8, 1988 at the age of 78 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.  He is my 5th cousin 2x removed.

National Volunteer Week: What Can You Do?

I often post about opportunities to volunteer and help with various genealogical and historical projects.  It's a way of giving back, plus it makes more information available to everyone.  I haven't run across that many projects since my most recent post, but seeing that it's National Volunteer Week right now (running April 15-21 this year), it seemed like a good time to publicize what I have.

In the late 1930's, Kitchener Camp, near Sandwich, Kent, England, was used to house male Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany.  A Web site has been created to collect documents, letters, photographs, and histories of the camp and share them in an online exhibition.  Materials from November 1938 through 1942 are being sought.  The creators of the site plan to donate the collected materials in 2019, the 80th anniversary of the camp's establishment, to an appropriate institution for permanent preservation.  A form is available if you have anything you can contribute to this memorial.  If you can identify anyone in the photos that are already posted on the site, that information is also welcome.

This one will be relevant primarily for people in Australia.  The Australian National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) has asked for help in identifying hundreds of photographs of acting hopefuls who were looking for a break in the 1930's.  Most of the photos, which were submitted to a casting call, are of young women.  The photos themselves all appear to be online on this site, which is arranged as an exhibition, and images of some of the original casting books can be found here.  Contact information for NFSA is on this page.

The Boston Public Library has a project to transcribe its significant Anti-Slavery Manuscript collection.  Many, many volunteers are needed to help with the approximately 40,000 items.  The goal is to have everything transcribed iinto searchable text to assist researchers of all types.  The transcription site was created and is hosted by Zooniverse, a common platform for this type of work.  More information on the project and how to sign up is available here.

Chicago's Newberry Library has several crowdsourced transcription projects on its own site that need volunteers.  Current projects shown are "Family Life in the Midwest", "U.S. Western Expansion", and "American Indian History."  Earlier this year a collection of Continental Army clothing receipts during the American Revolution was being worked on, but perhaps it has been completed, as it does not currently appear on the site.

Unfortunately, this one isn't about volunteering as much as it is about providing information.  A funeral home in Montrose, Colorado was shut down in February 2018, and the FBI is requesting that people report their experiences with it.  An article goes into some detail about the investigation, and a link to an online questionnaire is provided.

David Edward Gaunt, son of David Arthur Gaunt and Ruth Murphy, was born April 2, 1951, possibly in Indiana.  He is also my 6th cousin.

Jennifer Linn Gaunt, daughter of Arthur Matthew Gaunt and Phillis Ann Newsander, was born April 2, 1954.  She is another 6th cousin.

Pamela Hope Kanovsky was born April 2, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  She is my 4th cousin on my Meckler line.

Henry T.?/F.? Gaunt, son of Isaac Gaunt and Emma Inbridge, and Rachel L. Worrell were married on April 2, 1902 in Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey.  Henry is my 3rd cousin 2x removed.

John Francis Gaynor, son of James P. Gaynor and Mary Guynan, and Wally Mary Ruppert were married on April 2, 1907 in Manhattan, New York County, New York.  John is the great-grandfather of my half-sister Laurie Sellers.

Harvey Stephen Gordon, son of Alexander Gordon and Roslyn Rudin, and Sara T. Powell were married on April 2, 1982 in Miami, Dade County, Florida.  Steve is my 1st cousi once removed.

Terry A. Wright and Heidi Kathleen Alexander were married on April 2, 1983 in Santa Clara County, California.  Heidi is my 4th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line.

Lydia Mack, daughter of William Mack and Agnes Gantz, died April 2, 1852 at the age of 63 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.  She is my 1st cousin 6x removed.

Eliza Sellers, daughter of John Leonard Sellers and Elizabeth Wenger, died April 2, 1929 at the age of 88 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.  She is my 3rd cousin 4x removed.

Walter W. Sellers, son of David Sellers and Elsie Robinson, died April 2, 1951 at the age of 72 in Salem, Marion County, Oregon.  He is my 5th cousin 2x removed.

Robin Lynn Gaunt died April 2, 1967 at the age of 2 days.  She is my 5th cousin once removed.

William Thurman Phillips, son of Cecil Thurman Phillips, Jr. and Martha Ann Surran, died April 2, 1979 in Franklin County, Kentucky.  He is my 4th cousin on my Gauntt line through the Surrans.
