Now I'm seriously wondering about superstitions about the 13th, because the number of weddings jumped back up for the 14th.

Bertha Gauntt, daughter of Thomas Kirkland Gauntt and Jane Dunstan, was born June 14, 1895 in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey.  She is my grandaunt on my Gauntt line.

Loran Clarence Gaunt, son of Clarence Meridith Gaunt and Mary Grace Stewart, was born June 14, 1915 in Kings County, California.  He is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Victor Bernstein, son of Sam Bernstein and Rose Gordon, was born June 14, 1931 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.  He is my 1st cousin 2x removed via the Gordons.

Clara Eve Mullens was born June 14, 1952.  She was the second wife of Clarence Gilbert Lore, son of Clarence Newcomb Lore and Dorothy Mae Sellers, who is my half 1st cousin via the Sellerses.

Kim Perlman, daughter of Murray Elliot Perlman and Helen Ruth Greenebaum, was born June 14, 1956 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.  She is my 4th cousin on my Nowicki line through the Perlmans.

Adam Jordan Lederman was born June 14, 1991.  He is my 3rd cousin.

Cyrus Kunze Allen, Jr., son of Cyrus Kunze Allen and Hannah Ann Gaunt, and Clara Barton Shinn were married June 14, 1883 in Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey.  Cyrus Jr. is my 3rd cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Dayton G. Frake and Alice E. Gaunt, daughter of Benjamin Gaunt and Mary Elizabeth Sever, were married June 14, 1905 in Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey.  Alice is my half 2nd cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Chaim Avraham Birnboim, son of Menashe Birnboim and Sophie Garfinkel, and Shirley Hirt were married on June 14, 1959 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  Chaim is my 3rd cousin once removed on my Mekler line through the Garfinkels.

Also married on June 14, 1959, although in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, were Richard C. Blum and Camille Andrea Schwartz, daughter of Harry A. Schwartz and Florence Deutsch.  Camille is the 2nd cousin of my dear cousin Esther Garfinkel on her Ajzner line through the Schwartzes.

Samuel M. Socherman, son of William Socherman and Anna Tania Jakowszycka, and Lourdes Maria Martinez were married June 14, 1981 in Miami-Dade County, Florida.  Sam is my 4th cousin on my Nowicki line through the Sochermans.

Deaths

Hananiah S. Gaunt, son of Isaac Gaunt and Susannah Webb, died June 14, 1900 in New Jersey at the age of 80.  He is my 1st cousin 4x removed via the Gaunts.

Hananiah Selah Gaunt, son of Hananiah Selah Gaunt and Abigail Atkinson, died June 14, 1901, probably in New Jersey, at the age of 55.  He is my great-great-granduncle on my Gauntt line, and the 1st cousin of Hananiah S. Gaunt, above, who died one year to the day before him.

Frieda Schneiderman, daughter of Sam Schneiderman and Annie Rachel Petranovsky, died June 14, 1995 in New York at the age of 87.  She is my 1st cousin 3x removed on my Schneiderman line.

Thomas Gerald Allen, son of Elwood Lambert Allen and Beatrice Graham, died June 14, 1999, possibly in Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey.  He is my 5th cousin on my Gauntt line through the Allens.

Lobaugh, was born June 13, 1801, probably in New Jersey.  He is my 1st cousin 5x removed via the Gaunts (and the brother of Joseph Gantt, who was married on June 12, which was a Saturday in 1813; did people generally marry on Saturday rather than Sunday then?  Otherwise, why not choose his brother's birthday?).

Dorothy Pamela Allen, daughter of William Daily Allen and Fannie Goldsboro Brown, was born June 13, 1916 in New Jersey, possibly in Burlington County.  She is my 5th cousin on my Gauntt line through the Allens.

Robert Warren Townsend, son of Clifford Barclay Townsend and Beatrice Fannie Allen, was born June 13, 1935 in New Jersey, also possibly in Burlington County.  He is my 5th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line via the Allens and the nephew of Dorothy Pamela Allen, above.

Deborah Jean Allen, daughter of Jack Allen and Gloria Funiccaro, was born June 13, 1957, possibly in New Jersey.  She is my another 5th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Allens.

Maureen Randell, daughter of Ernest Randell and Mary Jane Wickham, was born June 13, 1958, possibly in Massachusetts.  She is the 3rd cousin of my half-sister Laura Sellers on her Bowen line through the Wickhams.

Tammy L. Brewer was born June 13, 1968.  She is/was the wife of Andre Joachim Rocke, who is my 2nd cousin.

James Earl Gaunt, son of Lewis Allen Gaunt and Sylvia Belle Black, and Mary Helen Burbank were married June 13, 1937 in Peru, Miami County, Indiana.  James is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Deaths

Mark Edward Gaunt, son of Mary Wayne Gaunt and Minnie Louise Lotter, died June 13, 1954, probably in Indiana, at the age of 5 years and 5 days.  He is my 6th cousin via the Gaunts.

Jean Katherine Baptiste died June 13, 1964 in Woodbury, Gloucester County, New Jersey at the age of 37.  She was the wife of George Edwin Gaunt, son of John Webber Gaunt and Marian Hannah Livezey, who is my 6th cousin once removed via the Gaunts.

Ronald Gaunt, son of George Edwin Gaunt and Jean Katherine Baptiste (above), also died June 13, 1964 in Woodbury, Gloucester County, New Jersey, apparently during or very soon after childbirth.  He is my 7th cousin via the Gaunts.

Harley Francis Thackeray, son of Logan Thackeray and Virginia Steele, was born June 12, 1916 in New Point, Decatur County, Indiana.  He is my 5th cousin 2x removed on my Gauntt line through the Thackerays.

Cheryl Smith was born June 12, 1964.  She was the third wife of Forrest Ronald Appleton, son of Jose Ramon Castañeda and Ruth Anne Appleton, who is my half 1st cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Appletons.

Sarah Louise Kardash was born June 12, 1978.  She is my 3rd cousin.

Patrick Randell was born June 12, 1998.  He is the 3rd cousin once removed of my half-sister Laura Sellers.

William F. Heath and Alice Ruth Heath, daughter of Henry Bullock Heath and Mary Ann Wood, were married on June 12, 1909 in Glens Falls, Warren County, New York.  Alice is the 1st cousin 2x removed of my aunt Mary McStroul on her Heath line.

Arnold Tennenhouse and Faye Garfinkel, daughter of Moirris Garfinkel and Mirka Ajzner, were married on June 12, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  Faye is my 3rd cousin once removed on my Meckler line through the Garfinkels and the sister of my dear cousin Esther.

Harvey Joseph Gaunt, Jr., son of Harvey Joseph Gaunt, Sr. and Jane Marie Conway, and Delores Louise Remoll were married on June 12, 1971 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.  Harvey is my 2nd cousin once removed via the Gaunts.

Ben Baylin and Debbie Kardish, daughter of Itzak Kardish and Shirley Bordelay, were married on June 12, 1977 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  Debbie is my 2nd cousin once removed on my Gorodetsky line through the Kardishes.

Malia Lisa McStroul and Chad Gregory Walter were married on June 12, 1993.  Malia is the 1st cousin once removed of my aunt Mary McStroul.

Howard Pearson Gaunt, son of Calvert Gaunt and Annette Pearson, died June 12, 1984 in Homosassa Springs, Citrus County, Florida at the age of 69.  He is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Harry Mark Gaunt III, son of Henry Mark Gaunt, Jr. and Lavonda Imogene Blaylock, died June 12, 1995 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana at the age of 48.  He is my 6th cousin via the Gaunts.

Logan Benjamin Thackeray, son of Logan Thackeray and Virginia Steele, was born June 11, 1924 in Salt Creek, Decatur County, Indiana.  He is my 5th cousin 2x removed on my Gauntt line through the Thackerays.

Raven Clarence Taylor was born June 11, 1994.  He is my 3rd cousin once removed.

Thomas Bosarth and Rosanna Gaunt, daughter of David H. Gaunt and Eliza/Lydia Anderson, were married June 11, 1895 in Pemberton, Burlington County, New Jersey.  Rosanna is my half 2nd cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Hananiah Selah Gaunt, son of Hananiah Selah Gaunt and Abigail Atkinson, and Louise A. Hendricks Jones were married on June 11, 1901, probably in New Jersey.  Hananiah is my great-great-granduncle.

Ora Myron Gaunt, son of David Clinton Gaunt and Martha Sophronia Hartman, and Pearl Deeter Hittle were married June 11, 1966.  Ora is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Bruce Oliver Ellis, son of Russell Oliver Ellis and Irene Elise Crater, and Mary Catherine Ferraro were married June 11, 1988 in Stirling, Morris County, New Jersey.  Burce is my 2nd cousin on my Gauntt line through the Ellises.

Deaths

Rubin Meckler, son of Morris Meckler and Minnie Zelda Nowicki, died June 11, 1915 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York at the age of 1 year and 11 days.  He is my granduncle on my Meckler line.

William S. Naylor died June 11, 1915 at the age of 86, possibly in Burlington County, New Jersey.  He was the husband of Abigail Gaunt, daughter of Hananiah Selah Gaunt and Abigail Atkinson, who is my great-great-grandaunt and sister of the Hananiah Selah Gaunt who was married on June 11 (above).

Mary Elizabeth Mount was born June 10, 1904 in Fayette County, Illinois.  She was the wife of Verling Milton Votaw, son of Joseph Willet Votaw and Florence E. Barnett, who is my 4th cousin 2x removed on my Gauntt line through the Votaws.

Ruth Hutson, daughter of Bateman Hutson and Lorinda Brown, was born June 10, 1908 in Brookstone, White County, Indiana.  She is my 5th cousin 2x removed on my Gauntt line through the Hutsons (and the niece of Florence Hutson, above).

Neil Gaunt Clark, son of Oren Wilson Clark and Anna G. Gaunt, was born June 10, 1912 in Indiana, possibly in Wabash County.  He is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Beatrice Horowitz was born June 10, 1922, possibly in Brookyn, Kings County, New York.  She was the wife of William David Brainin, son of Benjamin Brainin and Yetta Braunstein, who is my 1st cousin 2x removed on my Brainin line.

Helen Ruth Greenebaum was born June 10, 1926 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  She was the wife of Murray Eli Perlman, son of Abraham Sam Perlman and Stella Joffe, who is my 3rd cousin 1x removed on my Nowicki line through the Perlmans.

Richard Bruce Sellers, Sr., son of George Moore "Dickie" Sellers and Bertha Poinsett Eckman, was born June 10, 1939 in Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey.  He is my 1st cousin once removed on my Sellers line.

Karen Sellers, daughter of Richard Bruce Sellers, Sr. (above) and Catherine Andrews, was born June 10, 1959, possibly in New Jersey, on her father's 20th birthday!  She is my 2nd cousin on my Sellers line.

Reissa Schwarzmann was born June 10, 1962.  She was/is married to Jeffrey Seth Ross, son of Lyman Ross and Esther Segal, who is my 4th cousin on my Meckler line through the via the Rosses.

Aaron Paul Lederman was born June 10, 1998.  He is my 3rd cousin on my Gorodetsky line.

Roslyn Brozovsky, daughter of Sam Brozovsky and Ann Kardish, and Michael Wollock were married June 10, 1979 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  Roslyn is my 2nd cousin once removed on my Gorodetsky line through the Kardishes.

Jane White died June 10, 1833, possibly in New Jersey.  She was the wife of Dellaplain Gaunt, son of Daniel Gaunt and Mary Githens, who is my 2nd cousin 3x removed via the Gaunts.

James Edward Van Haverbeke died June 10, 2016 in Lumberton, Hardin County, Texas.  He was married to Barbara June Springfield, daughter of Robert Springfield and Helen Laverta Slentz, who is my 6th cousin on my Gauntt through the Slentzes.

Loving Day

Today, June 12, is Loving Day, the anniversary of the 1967 Supreme Court decision that struck down antimiscegenation laws that sixteen Southern states still proudly carried on their lawbooks.  While the blacks they were preventing from marrying whites were those they perceived as having roots in Africa, others with dark skin were looked at in the same way.

I have a friend whose father was from India and whose mother was French.  She told me about a trip they took through the American South in the 1950's.  Her siblings favored their mother's complexion, while she more resembled her father.  When they went to restaurants, she and her father were required to sit in the back, while her mother and siblings were permitted to eat in front, with the other "white" folks.  It's probably a good thing that her parents weren't also arrested for miscegenation at the same time.

1.  My mother, Myra Roslyn (Meckler) Sellers Preuss, was born November 11, 1940 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York (the same date and place as Barbara Boxer, although I don't know yet if it was the same hospital).  By using TimeAndDate.com, I confirmed that my memory was accurate and that my mother was born on a Monday.

2.  The most well known historical event thtat occurred on my mother's birth date is the armistice that officially ended World War I, which took place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  (Yes, my mother had that drilled into her children's heads very early.)

I thought that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on November 11, but the Wikipedia page devoted to the ship has the date as November 10.  I don't remember from where I had the idea that it was the 11th.  Ah, well.

I searched for November 11 on Wikipedia to see what other interesting events did fall on that day.  Some that struck me:

In 1028, Constantine VIII, the emperor/co-emperor of the Byzantine Empire for 66 years, died.

In 1750, riots broke out in Lhasa after the murder of the Tibetan regent.

In 1831, Nat Turner was hung in Jerusalem, Virginia after inciting the well known slave uprising.

In 1880, the famous (infamous) Ned Kelly was hung at Melbourne Gaol in Victoria, Australia.

Although one must take into account which calendar was in use for historic events.  For example, in 1821 Russia was still using the Julian calendar (because it didn't change to the Gregorian until 1918).   According to PlanetCalc.com, November 11, 1821 on the Julian calendar was November 23 on the Gregorian calendar, while November 11 on the Gregorian calendar was October 30 on the Julian.  (Wikipedia appears to be using the Gregorian November 11 for Dostoevsky.)  Constantine VIII died, and Henry IV and Charlotte of Savoy were born, under the Julian calendar, because the Gregorian calendar did not yet exist.

Because I just wrote about it yesterday, I noticed that Wilhelmina Atkinson died one day before her 75th birthday.

Lenore Corinne Gaunt, daughter of Charles Gaunt and Pearl E. Cory, was born June 9, 1904 in Richvalley, Wabash County, Indiana.  She is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Wilhelmina Atkinson was born June 9, 1907, possibly in New Jersey.  She was the wife of John Edward Lawrence, son of Alfred Lawrence and Harriet Rebecca Eckman, who is the 1st cousin 2x removed of my cousin Al Lore via the Eckmans.

George Trombulak, Jr. was born June 9, 1922 in Aliquippa, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann Funk, daughter of Earl G. Funk and Hazel Pauline Gauntt, who is my 3rd cousin once removed via the Gauntts.

Claire Calvin Mowry was born June 9, 1939.  He was the husband of Gail Carol Dubell, daughter of Charles Barton Dubell and Myrtle Lydia Allen, who is my 5th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Allens.

Michael Albert Leonard, son of Louis Mark Leonard and Elsie Meckler, was born June 9, 1953 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  He is my 1st cousin once removed via the Mecklers.
