Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Where Have You Visited?

This week's Saturday Night Genealogy Fun reminds me of the custom map Randy Seaver suggested people generate two years ago, but this time it's just a list of places.

Your mission this week, should you decide to accept it, is:

(1) A meme on Facebook has been circulating about which states, countries, and other places you have visited.  The average for Americans is eight.

(2) Copy the list from this blog post, denote your places visited with an X, and add states or countries you've visited that are not already on the list.  Then total it up at the end of your list.

(3) Put your responses in your own blog post, in a comment on this blog post, or in a status or comment on Facebook.

So I'm going to start out by saying that I am stunned the average for Americans is only eight.  That is really low!  On the other hand, not everyone had a "wandering Jew" for a mother.  And here is my list, except I deleted Chicago, because that's just silly.  I also deleted Sicily, because Sardinia and Corsica aren't on the list, and they're all constituent parts of other countries anyway.

My score:   67

My total is one fewer than Randy's, but I didn't include Chicago (the original list must have been started by someone from the Windy City).  Since I have been to Chicago, that means we're tied.

    1. Ah, but there are so many more places I want to go!

  2. What a great list! The best one on there is Ireland. :) I hope to go there some day. My blood runs red, white, blue, and emerald green. :)0

What did you do while in Australia? That is where we planned to live when we first got married. David was going to work for a company there, but the job fell through and we stayed in the States.

    Have a blessed week!

    1. I loved Ireland! It is the second-favorite place I have visited (the first being Greece).

My family moved to Australia as potential immigrants, and we lived there for two years. We were in the Sydney area. I attended 4th and 5th grades there.

    2. 55 for me. That leaves about 50 more that I want to visit.

    3. Ok, what's first on your "want to visit" list?

    4. Cool! My uncle was stationed in Greece during the 1970s with the US Navy. My aunt and cousins were able to live there with him. Those were some scary times, though, with tanks in the streets.

Did you like your time in Australia?

    5. I liked Australia a lot. I have even been back to visit two times since then, once in 1988 and again in 2005.

    6. I think that is great! I've never been out of this country. What was your favorite thing about Australia?

    7. My favorite thing in Australia was school. There was a dedicated school for advanced students. I thought it was fantastic.

    8. That is nice. I looked forward to the koala bears, but oh well. Now, I have alligators and snakes instead. :)
      Have a great night!

    9. Oh, we saw koalas and kangaroos, and they were very cool. You could pet the kangaroos, but not the koalas. Snakes are also cool.

    10. I've heard the koalas can have a bad attitude. We all have our moments, I guess.

    11. With koalas it isn't just moments. They're just not friendly animals. Kangaroos, however, don't mind people. This is a photo of my brother, my sister, and me with a kangaroo.
