Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Your Genealogy Highlight This Past Week

As if I weren't far enough behind, I actually finally caught COVID!  So I've been isolating and recovering and trying even harder to catch up.  Thank goodness I had a ready answer for Randy Seaver's Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge today.

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along; cue the Mission:  Impossible! music!):

1.  What was your genealogy-related highlight of this past week (or two weeks)?

By an amazing coincidence, my genealogy highlight this past week is also related to an AncestryDNA match who has an adoption in his line.

I've been corresponding with Edward for three and a half years now.  He matches my sister (whose kit I manage) at a much higher level than he does me.  We've been trying to figure out what names we might have in common, based on what he knew of his tree.

The big news came a few days ago, when Edward sent a message saying that he had been able to identify his paternal grandfather.  So now he has new surnames to add to the mix.  Unfortunately, we still don't have any that match in recent generations.  Currently the most promising lead is Asay, going back to the 1700's in each of our lines.  Hurray for old Quaker names in New Jersey!

But now I need to step up my research on my Asays!

Laura Gaunt, daughter of John Gaunt and Hannah Davis, was born June 22, 1867, possibly in Ohio.  She is my 3rd cousin 3x removed via the Gaunts.

Susanna Asay, daughter of Alfred Winfield Asay and Sarah Anna Gaunt, was born June 22, 1889 in Burlington County, New Jersey.  She is my 1st cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

George F. Allen, son of George N. Allen and Ada E. Mason, was born June 22, 1891 in Burlington, Burlington County, New Jersey.  He is my 4th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Allens.

Frederick Cleworth Dunstan, son of Frederick Dunstan and Anna Waltz Horner, was born June 22, 1895 in Westhampton, Burlington County, New Jersey.  He is my 1st cousin 2x removed on my Dunstan line.

John F. Major, son of Clayton Major, Jr. and Ida May Lippincott, was born June 22, 1909 in New Jersey.  He is my 1st cousin 3x removed via the Lippincotts.

Denzel Rowland Earehart, son of Ira Delbert Earehart and Doris Lavina Rowland, was born June 22, 1921 in Indiana.  He is my 5th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Rowlands.

Richard John Dunn was born June 22, 1966.  He is my 2nd cousin.

Aaron Nathaniel Baker was born June 22, 1985.  He is my 2nd cousin once removed.

Clarence Crain and Lela Maud Easlick, daughter of Allen Severs Easlick and Mary E. Shemeley, were married June 22, 1912, possibly in New Jersey.  Lela is my 3rd cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Easlicks.

David Adler and Lillian Gordon, daughter of Hyman Gordon and Anna Schwartz, were married June 22, 1943 in Bronx, Bronx County, New York.  Lillian is my 1st cousin 2x removed via the Gordons.

Gaylord Paul Gaunt, son of Harry Mark Gaunt and Sarah Gayle Kirkendall, and Nyla June Hutchens were married June 22, 1946 in Allen County, Indiana.  Gaylord is my 5th cousin once removed via the Gaunts.

Clarence Merrill Gaunt, son of Clarence Meridith Gaunt and Mary Grace Stewart, and Lois Louise Lotspeich were married June 22, 1955 in Kern County, California.  Clarence is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Michael Townsend and Linda Diane Layton, daughter of Edwin Earl Layton and Lois L. Vaughn, were married June 22, 1968 in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada.  Linida is my 5th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Vaughns.

Deaths

Effa Gaunt, daughter of William Allen Gaunt and Mary Ann Parrott, died June 22, 1875, probably in Wabash County, Indiana, at the age of 3 years and 9 months.  She is my 3rd cousin 3x removed via the Gaunts.

Daniel M. Votaw, son of Millard F. Votaw and Ida May Fisher, died June 22, 1956, possibly in Indiana, at the age of 51.  He is my 4th cousin 2x removed on my Gauntt line through the Votaws.

Ruth Irene Waybright died June 22, 1964, possibly in Indiana, at the age of 72.  She was the wife of Orlan Fay Gaunt, son of David Clinton Gaunt and Martha Sophronia Hartman, who is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

Benjamin Brainin, son of Morris Brainin and Rose Dorothy Jaffe, died June 22, 1972 in Valhalla, Westchester County, New York at the age of about 75.  He is my great-granduncle on my Brainin line.

Joan Barbara Haypak died June 22, 2005, possibly in Clementon, Camden County, New Jersey, at the age of 70.  She was the first wife of George Russell Sellers, son of George Moore Sellers and Bertha Poinsett Eckman, who is my 1st cousin once removed.

Jacob Leckrone was born May 16, 1794 in Pennsylvania.  He was married to Agnes Mack, daughter of Jacob Mack and Nancy Moser, who is also my 2nd cousin 5x removed.

Elizabeth Pearsall Gaunt, daughter of Dellaplain Gaunt and Mary Isaac, was born May 16, 1856 in Oxford Depot, Orange County, New York.  She is my 3rd cousin 4x removed.

William Allen Gaunt, son of John B. Gaunt and Priscilla Dye, was born May 16, 1861 in Jay County, Indiana.  He is my 3rd cousin 3x removed.

Oliver Franklin Clark, son of Oren Wilson Clark and Anna G. Gaunt, and Mildred Blanche Benson were married on May 16, 1931 in Clark County, Indiana.  Oliver is my 4th cousin 2x removed via the Gaunts.

William Thomas Guy and Patricia Claire Gauntt, daughter of Irving Lester Gauntt and Mildred Hoffman Childs, were married on May 16, 1953 in Collingswood, Camden County, New Jersey.  Patricia is my 5th cousin.

Charles Lester Danley and Brenda Lee Gauntt, daughter of Clarence Leon Gauntt and Elizabeth Major, were married on May 16, 1981, possibly in New Jersey.  Brenda is my 5th cousin.

Harmon Sellers, son of Samuel Sellers and Elizabeth Barton, died May 16, 1923 at the age of 43 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.  He is my 4th cousin 3x removed.

John Robert Benham died May 16, 2000 at the age of 77 in Batesville, Ripley County, Indiana.  He was married to Bessie Marie Hoyer, daughter of Rollin Henry Hoyer and Bessie Floreen Schwier, who is my 6th cousin once removed on my Gauntt line through the Schwiers.

Anita Clarice Loveman died May 16, 2015 at the age of 88 in Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia.  She was my paternal grandfather's second wife and the mother of my aunt Carol Sellers.
